Imagination and Koa in Standout Gold Coast Performances
This year’s Audi Sydney Gold Coast Race showcased a number of top class performances from yachts equipped with Ian Short Sails.
Robin and Annette Hawthorn’s Beneteau 47.7, Imagination, won both IRC and ORCi Division 3. Imagination made good use of new assymetric spinnakers in winning division 3. The win capped a successful 6 months for the blue hulled Imagination, having recently finished first overall in the 2015 – 16 Grant Thornton Short Ocean Pointscore on IRC and also placed tenth overall and third in ORCi Division 3 in the Hobart Race.
Peter Wrigley and Andy Kearnan‘ s TP52, Koa finished second overall on both IRC and ORCi. Early in last years Hobart Race the Farr designed, Goetz built yacht led the fleet before gear failure forced her withdrawal. Ian Short Sails are working with the team on Koa to develop highly competitive set of working sails.
Other yachts to place high in division results included two other Beneteaus – Bravo (Beneteau 47.7) and Ausreo (Beneteau 40). In IRC Division 4, Bravo and Ausreo finished second and third respectively. The order was reversed in ORCi Division 3 with Ausreo finishing in second place and Bravo in fourth.
